Preparing for Cyclone Alfred - We Stand Together

As Cyclone Alfred approaches, Goodna Street Life is mobilizing to support our community in preparation for potential impacts. While we do not yet know the full extent of the storm’s effects, we are committed to ensuring that those in need receive the help they require.

How It Could Affect Our Community

Our community is too familiar with the impacts of flood and natural disasters, and while we are all hoping for the best, we must be prepared for the worst. For up to date modeling please go the the Ipswich Disaster Dashboard, and follow the advice and instructions of emergency services.

Be prepared for:

  • Severe flooding in low-lying areas
  • Significant property damage and infrastructure disruption
  • Power outages and road closures
  • Families displaced and in need of urgent assistance

Our Response Plan

Goodna Street Life will be on the ground to provide assistance and support to those affected by Cyclone Alfred. Our experienced team are preparing food, resources and volunteers to assist with the recovery efforts.

When we are given the all clear by emergency services, we will be meeting at Helens Haven, 8/5 Smiths Rd Goodna (pending flood impact), to begin our recovery plan.

Initial activities include:

  • Collecting and sorting food donations for emergency distribution
  • Coordinating volunteers for post-cyclone cleanup efforts
  • Providing information on State Recovery Assistance
  • Connecting those experiencing homelessness with urgent housing support

Please do not donate material goods like clothing, bedding, household goods and furniture until these items are requested.
